To be eligible for an award, the stu- dent's family must be NPPGA grow- er member or a NPPGA Potato Associate. This year two independent judges selected winners. Judges use scor- ing guidelines based on academic achievement to make their selec- tions. NPPGA would like to thank all the applicants, and wish all con- tinued success. Emma Suda has been awarded a $1,000.00 Northern Plains Potato Growers Research and Education Foundation Scholarship. Emma is a graduate of Grafton High School, Grafton, North Dakota with a 4.0 GPA. Emma was captain of the vol- leyball team for two years and cap- tain of the basketball team for three. She is involved with DECA, Future Business Leaders of America (FLBA), Key Club, and the Student Council. She is also a member of the Honor Society. She is very involved with her church, St John the Evangelist Catholic Church, and her commu- nity. Emma will be attending North Dakota State University in the fall majoring in Finance and Marketing. Her parents are Don and Jalene Suda of Grafton, North Dakota. Kate Whelan has been awarded a $1,000.00 Northern Plains Potato Growers Research and Education Foundation Scholarship. Kate is a graduate student at the University of North Dakota. Kate graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors from North Dakota State University with a 3.8 GPA. She was on the Dean’s List 2009 thru 2012. Some of her other achievements are Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society, Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, Golden Key International Honor Society, Alpha Gamma Delta Strive for PI Award winner, and North Dakota Community Foundation Scholarship winner. She is involved with her local church, the United Methodist Church in St. Thomas, North Dakota and her community. Kate is attending the University of North Dakota in their Masters of Physician Assistant Studies pro- gram. Her parents are Jeff and Greta Whelan of Crystal, North Dakota. Karlee Westrem has been awarded a $1,000.00 Potato Bowl, USA Scholarship, and will be a 2016 Potato Bowl Ambassador.
