However, when that seed is planted in warm areas the plants will express blackleg wilt. A local labo- ratory where seed testing is avail- able is: Plant Diagnostic Lab. Department of Plant Pathology, NDSU, 306 Walster Hall. Jesse Ostrander, Fargo, North Dakota 58102, email: [email protected]. Dr. Secor also reported on the sur- vey on Pectobacterium and Dickeya of Dr. Carol Ishimaru, UMN. Dr. Carol Ishimaru, UMN conducted a survey in 2016 and had indicated that in 2016 the survey results were very similar to the ones of the 2014-2015 survey. Dickeya dianthicola was identified in low frequency in com- mercial potatoes, but not in seed potatoes in the two states. They also identified different species of Pectobacterium. In his Potato Agronomy report Dr. Andy Robinson, NDSU/UMN, gave some preliminary data of his research on the crop rotation effects on non-irrigated potato production, and on phosphorous acid on irrigat- ed russet-skinned potato. He men- tioned that a new extension bul- letin on “Managing lenticel spots” was made available as well as a “potato diagnostics clipboard” and a report on his “Irrigated red and yellow cultivar trial.” They were also building an app. for late blight and early blight notifications in which they were combining the planting date with data from the nearest weather station. Dr. Robinson mentioned that different alerts were to be accessed through this app. Potato Breeding and Cultivar Development for the Northern Plains was the topic for Dr. Asunta (Susie) Thompson, NDSU, who mentioned four varieties that were getting closer to release. ND8068-5Russ; parentage: ND2667-9Russ x ND4233-1Russ Medium vine size. Very early vine maturity. Medium to high yield potential with dual-purpose. High specific gravity, therefore pre-har- vest irrigation and bruise preven- tion strategies should be employed to mitigate blackspot. It has good storability with low sugar accumula- tion and excellent frozen processing quality after 7 months storage. She
