If NAFTA were done with, there will be a 20% tariff on French fries from the US into Mexica and no tariff for Canadian fries into Mexico. Also, immigration is more and more important than ever in agriculture in all regions. Mr. Alan Helm of Gowan presented the use of fungicides with Zoxamide, which has an unknown mode of action in the FRAC Group 22. Mr. Helms presented the two fungicides Gavel® (with Mancozeb as premix) and Zing® (with Chlorothalonil as premix). Their appli- cation timings were recommended as 1: Just prior to row closure giving “layer of protection”; 2: As soon as late blight is found in your area and 3: Last applica- tions prior to harvest. Mr. Helms pre- sented several slides showing the effi- cacity of the fungicides against late blight. Ms. Patti Prasifka of Dow AgroSciences gave “Solutions for Insect Management in Potatoes” She presented that Isoclast® active is the commercial active ingredient brand name for sulfoxaflor, which is the active ingredient in Transform®, Closer®, Sequoia®, and other insecticide brands. It is a new chemical class of insecticides: Sulfoximines. It has a broad sap-feeding spectrum and is active on aphids, plant bugs, psyllids, whiteflies, planthoppers, scales and other sap-feeders. However, while the registration is suspended Dow AgroSciences is working diligently to provide EPA the information it needs to authorize previously labeled uses (like potato). Ms. Jolyn Rasmussen of Simplot pre- sented the “IPM & Agronomic Management for Innate® Gen 2 Varieties.” Innate Gen 2 varieties have unprecedented quality due to the fact that as in Gen 1 varieties they have reduced black spot and do not darken, when cut. Gen 2 varieties produce up to 90% acrylamide than other varieties when fried, plus they have late blight protection and a strong tolerance against cold sweetening due to invertase down regulation. Ms. Rasmussen gave some highlights, especially the variety Hibernate, a.k.a: Innate® Atlantic Gen 2 or Y9. Ms. Rasmussen reminded people that invertase converts the sucrose to glucose/fructose. They found an excel- lent fry color, but starch to sucrose con- version can still occur and they did notice elevated sucrose. Simplot is investigating whether sucrose levels can be high enough to cause color, which may lead to monitoring sucrose rather than reducing sugars in storage. Ms. Rasmussen gave the scope of Gen 2 For more information visit strikefumigants.com If you have scab problems, we have the solution. Healthy Fields. Healthy Yields.
