One of the first decisions made was to design a logo that could be incorporated into a new banner and materials that we would be using during promotions. This logo is very similar to the “Choice” logo which helps show a connection between the Auxilliary and the Association. The main reason the Auxilliary was formed was to help the Potato Growers Association promote pota- toes. This year’s Board of Directors decided it was time to “expand our horizons” and start promoting our product in more than just the usual way we have in the last few years. Our biggest obstacle is the number of members we have, we need more. With the generous monetary donation from the Potato Associates, the Board of Directors decided to send a pamphlet to all the spouses of the Association and the Associate members in hopes of generating more members. I hope you all had the opportunity to look over the pamphlet that was designed by Stephanie Carlson Berg, and if you are not a member, maybe you will consider joining. In the past five months, members of the Auxilliary have handed out samples of potato chip cookies at Valley City Winter Shows and at West Acres during Ag Day, gave a presentation on the many ways to prepare potatoes in Grafton, served baked potatoes and chocolate cov- ered chips at the Potato Expo in Grand Forks, provided a potato demonstration for a grocery store in Bemidji and handed out literature at a food show in Minneaplois. We had more opportunities to promote potatoes but just didn’t have the man power, maybe next year. There are three upcoming events to mark on your calendar. The first is scheduled for July 16th at the Grafton Golf Course. Plans are also being made for Field Day at the end of August and annual meeting in November. Between these two events is Potato Bowl, USA and the Walsh County Fair where we will be judging potato recipe contests and entering a float.
