b'(Continued from page 26) The AgCountry Fireworks show was moved from Thursday evening to Friday night and was held in downtown Grand Forks. Hundreds of people gathered to watch a night of fireworks on the greenway downtown.Friday afternoon was the University of North Dakota Fan Luncheon held at the Ralph Englestad Arena. The Grand Marshal of this years Potato Bowl was Fritz Pollard III from Frederick, Maryland. Fritz Pollard III is the son of former University of North Dakota alumni and olympic medalist, Fritz Pollard Jr. Frederick Fritz Pollard Jr. was part of the University of North Dakota Athletics Hall Of Fames initial class after a standout career in football and track and field inThe tailgating crowds were big again this year for the the 1930s.The Potato Bowl Ambassadors were Linnea Grotte fromPotato Bowl game.Thompson, North Dakota and Elias Markusen fromPark River, North Dakota. Both the Ambassadors received a $1,000 Potato Bowl Scholarship.On Friday evening the Hugos Get Wet and Run Wild event was held at the Choice Health and Fitness Center. This was a great event for kids of all ages and the proceeds from the event goes to local food shelves to help those in need. ThePotatoBowlParadewasheldSaturdaymorning,September 18th before the football game.The parade had over 125 floats this year, all with a potato or football theme. The parade route went thru downtown Grand Forks where peoplelined up and down the streets all along the parade route to pick up candy and celebrate the day.TheUniversityofNorthDakotaMarchingBand makes an appearance before the football game.After the parade everyone made their way over to the Alerus Center in Grand Forks for some tailgating fun. A Potato Bowl tailgating tent served hundreds of fans who stopped by for a free baked potato bar, and refreshments before the game. Over 750 baked potatoes were served to the hungry crowd.This years Potato Bowl football game had a crowd of around 9,000. The University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks won the game, beating theDrake University Bulldogs 38 to 0 in a punishing game for the Fighting Hawks.The Potato Bowl committee would like to thank all the sponsors and volunteers who help year after year to make this week a success.
