Totes are easily moved and loaded with forklifts, not back breaking labor. Greg calculated that the bag pre- dates 1974 when the business name was changed to "Wes Holtman and Sons" to include Greg and his brothers Tim and Rick. One of those bags is in the possession of Greg's son Wes who was named after his grandfather. The newly discovered bag is now the only one the family has that is stamped with just “Wes Holtman Potato Co,” making it very special. The bag includes the East Grand Forks zip code which also helps date it. Zip codes did not come into existence until 1963. These clues now tell us the bag was made sometime between 1963 when zip codes began and 1974 when the company name was changed. Grace thinks the sack was in the building when her family took possession in 1966 which would narrow it down even further, to between 1963 and 1966. Greg plans to have the bag framed in old barn wood, and it will hang in the family's rec room as a reminder of the family's deep roots in the Red River Valley potato industry. A special thank you to Grace for knowing this sack might have some value to someone here in the Red River Valley!
