M A R C H 2 0 1 8 POTATO GROWER 5 oping and implementing programs, policies, and services to support a successful and vibrant potato indus- try; enhancing product develop- ment opportunities within the industry; legislative representation with local, state, and federal govern- ment agencies; involvement with bargaining cooperatives to strate- gize and negotiate positive produc- tion agreements for growers; and contributing information to indus- try publications. Other responsibilities include super- vising the organization's staff; creat- ing and managing a budget for the organization; representing the organization at events and coordi- nating event attendance; conduct- ing research and preparing news releases for industry publications; and interacting frequently with growers and organization members. This position requires a strategic, big-picture thinker with an ability to focus on the tactical aspects of the work. The position requires an executive who is confident, takes independent action and initiative with a sense of urgency, and who seeks and accepts decision authority and responsibility. This individual must have a proven ability to man- age an operation and enhance the financial strengths of an organiza- tion, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, expe- rience with representing and influ- encing issues on behalf of an organ- ization, and a high level of comfort interacting with the media, commu- nity, and legislative members. Advanced leadership experience in potato, produce, or other agricul- ture entity is preferred, but not required. A bachelor's degree is pre- ferred for this position.
