Central American frozen imports were up 13 percent, but the U.S. share was only up seven percent with much of the business going to the EU which was up 31 percent and closing in on the U.S. for the top spot. The U.S. has regained significant overall market share in Malaysia and Taiwan which were up 34 per- cent and 14 percent respectively. However big gains by the EU and Canada set back U.S. frozen imports in Malaysia by 50 percent. Dehydrated potato (dehy) exports from all major world suppliers were up nine percent in volume and down one percent in value while the U.S. dehy suppliers were up five percent by volume and one percent in value. Total dehy exports to Potatoes USA target markets were up 15 percent with all U.S. exports up eight percent. The U.S. maintained its value while exports from other suppliers were at decreased prices. Canada is the largest supplier of dehy potatoes, but there are also substantial quantities of product from the EU into the US. Still total U.S. dehy exports were up 11 per- cent for the marketing year. Dehy exports to Mexico were up 18 percent, with the U.S., still the dom- inate supplier up 12 percent. The EU captured some of the U.S. mar- ket pushing their increase up by 62 percent but on a much smaller vol- ume. Total dehy exports to the Philippines were up 40 percent with the U.S. enjoying much of this increase with exports up 117 per- cent. In summary, total imports of all potatoes (frozen, fresh, seed and dehy) into the U.S. were up 13 per- cent on a volume basis for the three quarters ending March 31st and exports to the world were up nine percent in volume and five percent by value. 5 + /2 .
