A P R I L 2 0 1 8 POTATO GROWER 27 People, Product News Mixed Results For U.S. Exports In January The volume of U.S. exports of frozen potato products in January 2018 were down 1.8% compared to January 2017. Frozen exports remain up 1% for the July 2017 – June 2018 marketing year. Dehy exports were off 5% for January but remain up 4% for the marketing year. Fresh potato (chipping and table) exports were up 12% in January and are up 14% for the mar- keting year. Seed potato exports are down 3.5% for the marketing year. The slight January decline for frozen was the result of significant declines to China, Indonesia and the Philippines, while good increases were recorded for Mexico, Guatemala, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand. The dehy drop in January was caused by reductions to Mexico, China, Taiwan and the Philippines, while Indonesia, Japan and Thailand all saw increases. For Fresh the increase was the result of significant increases to Mexico, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Taiwan, while exports to most other Asian markets recorded reductions.
